Groundbreaking Germany – Gothic, Gleaming and Green

As we embarked on our journey to explore the beauty of Europe’s cities, we made a deliberate decision to spend three days in Berlin, captivated by its allure. While driving from Prague to Berlin, we had the pleasure of visiting the charming city of Dresden, and on our way to Salzburg, we couldn’t resist the pull of Munich’s enchanting spirit. Our time spent in the heartland of Germany left our souls feeling replenished and invigorated.

Berlin Musings: As we delve into the annals of this city’s past, The heart both trembles and melts, oh how it lasts! Once a witness to tyranny, torment, and tears, Now, a gleaming city, bustling with cheers. Berlin’s resurrection from a time of sorrow, Stands testament to a brighter tomorrow. A lesson to mankind, we must never forget, The past’s horrid pages, we shall never let repeat.

Itinerary:

  • Day- 1: Self Drive from Prague to Berlin and visit Dresden on the way
  • Day-2: Berlin
  • Day-3: Berlin
  • Day 4: Self Drive from Berlin to Salzburg and visit Munich on the way.

Practical details:

  1. Stay: Apartments am Brandenburger Tor, Behrenstr. 1c, Mitte, 10117 Berlin, Germany. Link here
  2. Traveling within Berlin: Use the Underground metro, Buses or Tram. Berlin is a well-connected city and easy to get around by public transport or by walk too.
  3. Driving in Germany: We rented a car in Vienna from Zippy7 Autorent. No additional toll charges were paid to drive on Auto Bahns within Germany. But note that stopping on autobahns is illegal. We did miss many beautiful photo opportunities along the German countryside due to this limitation but its a treat to the eye though you may not be miss to capture it in your lens.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day- 1: Self Drive from Prague to Berlin and visit Dresden on the way

At Dresden’s visit, park the car(paid parking) near Theatreplatz and visit Theatreplatz, Zwinger Palace, and Frauenkirche. All these attractions, we visited on our own and by walk.

Evening on reaching Berlin, visit a few Berlin landmarks by walking

Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin Cathedral, Berliner Fernsehturm and Brandenburger Gate. Return from Berliner to Brandenburger Gate, we took the underground metro back to the apartment we were staying.

Day-2: Berlin

Book a Walking tour as it helps to learn the history of this Buoyant City. The tour passes through Museum Island, Neue Wache, Humboldt University, Natural History Museum, Babelplatz, Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin Wall Memorial, Topography of Terror, Memorial to the Murdered Jews and ends in Brandenburg Gate. In the evening we visited Reichstag Building and Potsdamer Platz. Some attractions we choose to take a tour inside and some were mostly visited from the outside. It’s a choice based on your interest. Also, public transport(underground metro, tram, and buses) are easily accessible and based on your convenience choose to use them or walk.

Day-3: Berlin

On this day, we visited East Side Gallery, Charlottenburg Palace, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Pergamon Museum, Spree Riverfront, Bode Museum, Hackescher Markt ,Tiergarten. A mix of walking and public transport we chose.

Day 4: Self Drive from Berlin to Salzburg and visit Munich on the way.

In Munich, we chose to visit BWM Museum and Welt.
